Chelsea’s Striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Close to Leaving Chelsea for Ligue 1

Reports from France suggest that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is on the verge of leaving Chelsea as he has reached an agreement to join Marseille.

Since his move from Barcelona for £12 million last September, the former Arsenal captain has faced a challenging time at Stamford Bridge, struggling to find his form and facing setbacks along the way.

Aubameyang’s arrival at Chelsea coincided with the departure of Thomas Tuchel, the manager with whom he had a strong bond during their time together at Borussia Dortmund. Unfortunately, the striker’s performance on the pitch did not live up to expectations, as he managed only three goals in 21 appearances.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang UCL Setback and January Signings

Adding to his woes, Aubameyang was dealt a blow in February when he was excluded from Chelsea’s Champions League squad due to the influx of new signings during the January transfer window. This setback was a significant blow to his confidence and playing opportunities.

Aubameyang has been actively seeking an exit from Chelsea this summer, and initially, a move to the Saudi Pro League seemed probable.

However, according to RMC Sport, the striker has now reached an agreement with the French club for a two-year contract, with the option for a third season.

The French club is currently engaged in discussions with Chelsea, aiming to persuade the club to allow Aubameyang to leave on a free transfer. Despite having one year remaining on his contract, valued at approximately £160,000 per week, the 34-year-old striker is keen to pursue a fresh start with Marseille.

Marseille’s Aspirations: Champions League Qualification

Last season, Marseille finished third in Ligue 1 and now has the opportunity to secure a place in the Champions League if they successfully navigate the qualifying rounds this summer.

The prospect of competing in Europe’s elite club competition could be a significant draw for Aubameyang as he seeks new challenges in his career.

As Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s departure from Chelsea appears imminent, a move to Marseille is on the horizon. The striker’s underwhelming spell at Stamford Bridge, coupled with Marseille’s interest and their potential Champions League participation, has paved the way for a new chapter in his career.

Negotiations between the two clubs continue as they work towards an agreement that would allow Aubameyang to embark on a fresh journey with Marseille.
