Manchester City’s pursuit of Josko Gvardiol has been a prominent topic in this summer’s transfer window. The Croatian defender, highly regarded in world football, is considered a prime target for Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic believes it’s the “good time” for his compatriot Josko Gvardiol to move to the Etihad Stadium.
Josko Gvardiol: A Prime Target for Man City
The Citizens have been continuously linked with a significant transfer for RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol this summer. Reports suggest that Pep Guardiola has identified the 21-year-old defender as his primary target.
Despite rumours of an agreement between the two clubs, Leipzig’s Marco Rose and Max Eberl have downplayed suggestions of a done deal. Both clubs are still negotiating, with Leipzig setting an August 12 deadline for the Citizens to agree on a fee.
To secure Gvardiol’s services, Manchester City may have to meet Leipzig’s hefty €100m (£85.9m) valuation, potentially making him the most expensive defender in history.
Amidst recent reports of Liverpool’s interest in Gvardiol, Manchester City remains optimistic about finalizing a deal for the young Croatian talent.

Endorsement from Mateo Kovacic
Kovacic, who played alongside Gvardiol at the 2022 World Cup, has expressed his support for the move, citing Gvardiol’s readiness to take the next step in his career.
“Of course, I’d like [Gvardiol] to join. He’s very young and has great potential. He can come here and learn and be the best version of himself like he wants to be.”
Gvardiol, a left-footed defender who excels at centre-back and left-back positions, has shown remarkable growth during his time at Leipzig and with the Croatian national team.
While Gvardiol has expressed his desire to join Manchester City, Leipzig is not under financial pressure to sell him, thanks to the £60.2m they received from Liverpool for Dominik Szoboszlai.
Josko Gvardiol’s potential move to Manchester City has generated significant interest in the footballing world. The talented Croatian defender seems destined for a bright future, and it remains to be seen whether the deal will be finalized before the transfer window closes.
